Simon And Schuster, New York 1939.
First edition, Second Printing Near fine book with the extremely scarce near fine original dust jacket in beautiful condition.
The book is in stunning near fine condition with crisp bright matte illustrated clean boards (lacking the 1939 date to the title page but with all other first printing points, including the price on the dust jacket). The boards have sharp corners, one very tiny tip bump, and no edgewear. Small handling mark spot to lower edge of rear board. The binding is tight and square. The interior pages are over clean with a bit of scattered handling marks (which is most unusual as they tend to be found with writing, crayon marks, scribbles, torn pages and other issues that revolve with children’s books).
The original first edition jacket has benefited from very slight restoration to the outer spine tips by an expert paper conservator and presents in stunning near fine condition. The dust jacket has strong vibrant colors with some of the common toning to the rear panel. The jacket has no edgewear, no chips, no rips, no creases, no fading, no rubbing, no foxing and no stains. The dust jacket is NOT price clipped and has a stated price of $2.00 and has a book store stamp to the lower front inside flap. As scarce as this title is, the jacket is most of the time not even present, yet alone in this condition. Please see multiple images.
An exceptional copy of this classic rare book, in extremely rare condition, presenting nicely on the shelf. Bemelmans iconic title which launched this children’s series still continued today.
