The book has blue cloth boards with bright vibrant gilt to the front and spine. The book has sharp corners with tiny bumps to one corner tip and spine tip. The binding is tight and square. The cloth is clean and bright with vibrant gilt to the front and spine. The end papers pages have one delicate small scripted owner name, otherwise the internal pages are clean, bright and flat with No handling marks, No stains, No writing, No bent pages, and No foxing with the book internally appearing as unread. Bright gilt to the top of the page block as issued. Scarce first state book, withOUT the “ix” located on the contents page. Please see images.

The original first printing dust jacket has benefited from some restoration by an expert paper conservator to the outer spine tips, and as such presents as a near fine example. The jacket is bright with vibrant colors and none of the more common typical sunning to the spine. The jacket has no rips, no chips, no edgewear, no fading, and no rubbing but some slight toning to the front panel. The jacket is the first state of the first edition showing the correct blurbs to the inner flaps and the 7/6 Net price to the spine. Please see detailed images.

First Edition, First Printing Beautiful unrestored crisp fine/near fine book with the scarce original first edition, first state dust jacket. The book is in extraordinary condition considering that many children’s book are usually found “well loved and read”.

The book is clean beautiful condition with crisp vibrant green cloth boards, with bright unfaded gilt titles to spine and front. The book has sharp corners with tiny corner tip bump and no edgewear. The binding is tight and square. The end papers are clean with no owner names, bookplates, no bookstore stamps and no stains. The internal pages are clean and bright No handling marks, No stains, No writing, No bent pages and No foxing. Bright gilt to the top of the page block as issued. The unrestored scarce original dust jacket, with the 117th Thousand on the rear flap, presents as a near fine example with but a 1.5 inch intact tear to the upper edge of the front panel. (It is present but is perfectly intact so it is very hard to see). The jacket is very bright for this title which is usually found with sunning. Instead this jacket has strong vibrant colors, and presents the book beautifully with no other chips, no nicks, and no stains. The jacket is the first state of the first edition showing the requisite 117th thousand to first line of the rear inner flap and the 7/6 Net price to the spine.
