Scribner, Armstrong & Co., 1874
FIRST edition, FIRST printing, FIRST State. Scarce true First state of the First edition of this title, published before the deluxe edition (and has a completely different board design). Scribner, Armstrong & Co. on the bottom of the spine. 52 illustratons by Riou. The original French edition came out in 1864. Scribner Armstrongs first American edition came out in November 1873, though dated 1874. A stunning example of this title in green cloth.
The book is in beautiful condition with clean green boards with a strong vibrant gilt scene (of a waterfall and a raft) and titles to the front. The book has benefited from rebacking laying the original cloth back down. The book has no edgewear, and the binding is very tight and square. Unlike most copies of this title which have poor/cracked bindings and loose pages, this book is tightly bound and is quite readable and not fragile. Scarce Original peach color end papers present. All pages are present, overall lightly age toned but otherwise exceptionally clean for a Verne book with No stains, No handling marks, No foxing and No bent pages. Please see many detailed images.
A very handsome copy of this scarce title in very clean collectible condition, presenting well on the shelf with a nice crisp readable binding.
