A stunning original drawing by Warhol – not a lithograph, not a limited edition, but an original one-of-a-kind drawing, with a clean fresh look, entirely hand drawn by Andy Warhol! Presented newly matted framed and glazed in all archival materials and UV plexi.

For a brief period, Christie’s was heralded with the position to sell a portion of the Warhol estate to benefit the “The Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts”. The pieces they auctioned were originals by Warhol, most were entirely hand drawn (unlike his later limited edition screen prints). As Warhol had not intended these drawing to be for commercial sale, most all of them were unsigned but come instead with authenticity by The Warhol Foundation as originals by Andy Warhol which were obtained from his estate. These highly coveted pieces today are the few obtainable in which Warhol actually drew them by hand, and most preceded his factory period.

This piece is an ink drawing of an apple, circa 1956. Only a few decades later, by the mid 1980’s, Andy would create his famous “Ad Portfolio” (The Ads series and acts as a commentary on the power of technology and advertising). The Ad portfolio pulls from globally recognized brands associated with a wide range of products, from Apple cars to Paramount movies, and elevates these elements of ordinary life to the status of high art. These advertisements were powerful symbols, and Andy Warhol’s Ads portfolio is a peek into the media landscape of the 1980s. One of his MOST famous and loved was his Warhol screenprint of the Apple Logo. Today, Warhol’s Apple Logo screenprint, created in 1985, sells for well over $150,000.00 and almost never comes to market as so few were made. But instead, THIS PIECE, offered here, is entirely a unique original drawing by Warhol!
