Sampson Low, Marston, Low & Searle, London 1876
Second UK Edition of DROPPED FROM THE CLOUDS by Jules Verne. A vibrant crisp, clean copy. DROPPED FROM THE CLOUDS is the first book of the three part trilogy that makes the THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND series, with the Sampson Low UK editions preceding the American Scribner editions.
The book is in beautiful condition having been recased with the original cloth laid back down. As such the binding is tight and square and quite readable unlike most Verne books.
The book has crisp, clean beveled green boards with a bright unfaded gilt to the front and spine. The book has sharp corner, one just slightly pushed, and no edgewear. All pages are present and the binding is very tight and square, making the book quite readable and not fragile as is otherwise typical of Verne books. The peach end papers and original tissue guard are present. The internal pages are very clean for a Verne book with but a few pages to the front with light foxing, otherwise only an occasional handling marks, no stains, no writing, and no bent pages. The tissue guard shows age toning. Please see many detailed images.
A very handsome example of this title in collectible condition with stunning gilt and withOUT the excessive staining or excessive wear and broken bindings as is typically found with Verne books. Important first book of the classic Verne trilogy, presenting well on the shelf. Would make a wonderful gift for a Verne collector.
