GARTH WILLIAMS, (AMERICAN 1912-1996)

PEN AND INK WASH,
FINAL ARTWORK PUBLISHED FOR EMMETT’S PIG

Garth Williams’ perfect scene of a farm, a young boy with a corn cob pipe in his mouth, followed by his beloved pig. We have heard over the years that no one draws a farm scene better than Garth Williams as he has proven in his illustrations from Charlotte’s web, however those pieces sell for over $30,000 (if the art included the pig from the story). This title, albeit lesser known, showcases Williams stunning ability to portray farm life, including a superb illustration of Emmett’s devoted pet, an adorable “Pig” who follows alongside him in this amazing scene. Emmett is wearing overalls and is strolling along his farm with a corn cob pipe in his mouth, and trotting alongside him is his pet pig with his corkscrew tail. The art is rendered in ink and ink wash for a lovely soft effect. When this book was published, it was during the era of using a black overlay for the publication, and the one used for this page is included in a sleeve along the back of the frame. Signed by Garth Williams in full signature lower right “Garth Williams”. Presented double matted, framed and glazed in a glossy black frame using all archival materials and UV glass. FRAMED TO 16″ X 16.25″, the art by sight is 7.25″ x 7″.

The art is SIGNED by Garth Williams in full signature lower right along the edge “Garth Williams”.
