A scarce, beautiful stunning piece of Garth Williams original final artwork for THE TURRET, page 35. The art is rendered in stunning pen and ink on heavy paper stock. A fantastic highly detailed close-up illustration of the “boy scout” precocious mouse named Shaun, holding his hat and kicking a bowl to create noise for the onlooker who is peering in holding a hand held oil lamp. The art is signed by Garth Williams in full signature lower right, along with publisher notes along the bottom edge. Newly framed, matted and glazed, in a rubbed silver frame, to a completed size of 19.5″ x 16″. Small faded stain outside of the margins to the right edge.

The third book from the Rescuer series follows the fabulous Miss Bianca who has resigned, perhaps prematurely, as Madam Chairwoman of the Mouse Prisoners’ Aid Society. In her honor an enchanting water picnic is held at the lily moat beneath a ruined turret in the park outside the city. While the band plays Handel’s Water Music, the ever observant Miss Bianca discovers that someone is being held prisoner in the old turret.

It turns out to be the wicked Mandrake. No one, not even her dear friend Bernard (who in the course of events may be forced into a most unfortunate marriage), is the slightest bit inclined toward rescuing that scoundrel–in spite of Miss Bianca’s conviction that he has reformed. Adventures fraught with danger follow as Miss Bianca, alone, pays a midnight visit to the turret to ponder Mandrake’s penitence and make plans. Her plans come to include one boy scout, a precocious mouse named Shaun, and the magnificent stallion Sir Hector.

PROVENANCE
The art was purchased from an auction house , who in turn acquired these pieces direct from the estate of Garth Williams. Each piece is an original and sold directly from his estate. The art is in excellent condition, with small publisher’s notes outside of margins. The artwork would be stunning framed.
