Written while Orwell suffered severely from tuberculosis and published shortly before the disease claimed his life, the novel is a work “of hectic, devilish, claustrophobic intensity. nightmarish in the telling” (Clute & Nicholls, 896). In 2005, the novel was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005. Named as one of Modern Library 100 Best Novels of the twentieth century. “It is quite simply a novel which has changed the world”

The book is in near fine condition with light green cloth boards with red titles to the spine. The boards have sharp corners, a tight binding and no edgewear. Hint of slight edge bumping. Mottling and toning to the cloth mostly to the spine tips. The end papers are in clean condition with no owner names, no bookplates and no inscriptions but with some very pale faded foxing spots. Small faded bookseller stamp to the rear end paper. The internal pages are clean, bright and flat with no age toning, no stains, no marks, no writing, no bent pages and no foxing internally but some foxing spots to the outer page block. The preferred scarce red variant original dust jacket has benefited from some restoration by an expert paper conservator and as such presents in near fine condition. The restoration is mostly limited to the very outer spine tips and to an intact tear along the rear panel. The Nineteen Eighty-Four jacket is known to be extremely fragile, and usually in pieces or missing altogether. This jacket has strong vibrant colors with the typical fading of the spine to a grey tone. Otherwise the jacket has no chips, no edgewear, no stains, no fading, no rubbing and no foxing. The rear panel remains quite bright with a very softened slight crease. The jacket is NOT price clipped, and has a stated price of 10s. net. A beautiful unclipped dust jacket!
