Geo. M. Smith & Company 1873.
First Edition, First Printing. A beautiful book with gilt titles, and the original end papers. The true first printing of this book was printed by Osgood in 1873. However, the Boston fire destroyed all but an estimated 50 copies of this printing so the 1873 Geo Smith printing is considered the next true first edition (or some refer to as the second printing of the first edition of this book), printed by Geo. M. Smith & Company 1873. Fully illustrated with 110 illustrations, 303 pages.
The book is in great condition with green boards with slightly rubbed gilt scenes and titles, to the front and spine. The book still has the scarce original deep brown coated end papers. The book has benefited from having the spine professionally rebacked with the original cloth laid back down, and presents extremely well. The interior pages are overall clean with some occasional scattered handling marks, and with foxing to the last 10 pages of the book. The book has a penciled owner name to the first blank page, otherwise no book plates and no inscriptions. The binding is tight and square and the book has no edgewear. Unlike most copies of this title which have poor/cracked bindings and loose pages, this book is tightly bound and is quite readable and not fragile. Please see many detailed images.
A handsome important Verne book in collectible overall clean condition with the scarce original end papers. Perfect for a Verne collector, presenting well on the shelf with a nice firm readable binding, and without the excessive wear, and broken bindings as is typically found with Verne books.
